Movie fans tuned into the Oscars for glamor and glitz, stars and gowns – watching Hollywood’s every move in front of the cameras.

But the view from four other cameras – surveillance cameras installed by the Los Angeles Police Department – was seen by very few. Those security cameras watched those watching the stars to ensure a safe evening of elegance and awards.

Sweden-based Axis Communications provided the CCTV equipment and expertise for the LAPD, and officials admit that the other cameras – the ones we were watching – make things difficult for security cameras.

“The flashes are something that the movie stars all love and something that surveillance cameras hate,” said Fredrik Nilsson, Axis general manager.
