Technology is progressing at a rapid rate, with each new innovation introducing new potential benefits and concerns for the user. Commenting on the new iPhone 5, for example, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak said the device will eventually know more about people than other humans do.

"In 40 years we will have computers that are conscious, that have feelings, that have a personality," Wozniak said, according to a report by CNET.

So what the hell does that mean? The rise of the cyborg. In other words, the future may turn into a dangerous combination of Blade Runner and Terminator, when robots can easily hunt humans down and rip them apart if the machines feel embarrassed or insulted.

Just in case there isn't a John Connor – or there was but he was already killed by a robot sent back through time – battling Skynet for the future of mankind, homeowners should take preventative measures to ensure their safety and that of their loved ones.

Step one: Fortify home
We've all seen what the Terminator can do in the future: remold its liquid-metal body to adapt to a variety of situations. As a result, homeowners need to make sure their house can take a punch. Traditional wrought-iron gates that could keep pesky dogs out of a property will not do the trick anymore, as an Arnold Schwarzenegger-based cyborg could probably huff, puff and blow that shit down.

Unfortunately, since Terminators have a knack for locating anything and everything electronic and biological, these devices need to be hidden.

A few good places to deploy surveillance cameras include high up in the trees among the braches, in small nooks outside a home and other places that may keep the gadgets hidden from the cyborg's infrared vision. While some form of analytics would likely help homeowners detect any anomalies that show up in the camera's view, installing these solutions would only be a risk, as Cyberdyne probably already cracked the code and integrated it with malicious software that can be accessed via any capable Terminator.

Step three: Build the Resistance
When all else fails, the Resistance cannot. Defeating Cyberdyne is the only way to guarantee humans have a future in this world. As a result, homeowners need to be proactive in their fight against the machines.
