A family in Las Cruces, New Mexico hired 43 year old Elvira Talavera Perez as nanny to their newborn son in July 2011.  All was well until five months later when the parents noticed that some valuables had gone missing.  Some of the missing jewellery included gold chains and earrings.  They set up a hidden camera, known as a ‘nanny cam‘ in their bedroom, to see who might be responsible for the alleged thefts.  What they discovered was far more upsetting.

The Nanny-cam footage showed nanny Perez abusing the infant.  She is seen shoving a soiled wipe into the baby’s mouth.  Another captured incident involved dropping a soiled diaper on the baby’s face while he lay on the changing mat.

Beside committing these abusive acts, Perez was also caught red-handed taking jewellery from the parents’ bedroom.

After police examination of the video, Perez was arrested and charged with three counts of negligent child abuse.  She is currently being held in Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
