Movie fans tuned into the Oscars for glamor and glitz, stars and gowns – watching Hollywood’s every move in front of the cameras.
But the view from four other cameras – surveillance cameras installed by the Los Angeles Police Department – were seen by very few. Those security cameras watched those watching the stars to ensure a safe evening of elegance and awards.
Commercial security systems, in this case monitored by police four floors underground and 10 miles away, watched for suspicious at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
Sweden-based Axis Communications provided the CCTV equipment and expertise for the LAPD, and officials admit that the other cameras – the ones we were watching – make things difficult for security cameras.
“The flashes are something that the movie stars all love and something that surveillance cameras hate,” said Fredrik Nilsson, Axis general manager.
While security cameras played an important role for Hollywood on Oscar night, they play an equally-important role across the nation every minute of every day.
