Every once in a while, a story comes out revealing a terrible mistake made by a burglar. While these can be amusing, be careful not to think that all burglars are inept. Some criminals make silly mistakes, but you are probably better off depending on surveillance cameras, a quality lock and other advanced security solutions.
When it comes to burglars making glaring mistakes, a man in Romania stands out. According to a recent Metro report, a man recently broke into a house in Romania and, in the act of searching for things to steal, heard an unusual sound. He proceeded to call police in his fear and was later arrested for his break-in and attempted theft. Police spokesperson Mihaela Straub told the news source that the noise was probably the family cat.
"[The thief] already has a criminal record for similar break-ins, and given his nervous disposition, he probably should look for another job," Straub told Metro.
While a burglar may get into trouble on his or her own, you don't want to depend on your family cat making a floorboard creak or similar coincidence to scare a burglar away. Having a good camera or alarm system can help you get the help you need to protect yourself, your family and your assets from criminals.
