Siedle USA CEO Showcases Next Generation Intercom Security Technology
Siedle USA CEO, Karl Lamprecht recently stopped by to showcase the next generation of Intercom security technology including 3D face recognition, touch panel, mobile phone video connectivity, and many more features.
3D FACE RECOGNITION
Adatis TouchEntry / FaceEntry biometric features such as the face are unique and identify a person without any doubt. Face detection also provides a high level of acceptance because it€˜s safe, quick and easy to use. It requires no contact and is therefore harmless and hygienic. The technology which is used by Adatis is based on latest research results, working with a three-dimensional acquisition of the face in the invisible infrared range. When a face in front of the camera is detected, it is measured three dimensional and the extracted features are compared against features stored in a database of the unit. All this takes less than one second. As only abstract features are stored a reconstruction of a face from the features is not possible. Operation does not require any user interaction: If the person standing in front of the door is enrolled, i.e. in the data base, the door opens automatically.
ACCESS CONTROL – TIME AND ATTENDANCE
For small installations with a single door or a few doors FaceEntry-XT/TouchEntry-XT operates in stand-alone mode without a server. Authorized and enrolled staff members are stored in an internal database. If several systems are installed at a site, operation in server mode is recommended: Access data is centrally stored and managed in a server database. For integration into existing or large installations the system works in reader mode: User data is gathered via biometry, RFID card or PIN code and transmitted to a centralized management system. Communication is accomplished either via Ethernet (TCP/IP) or via a serial port with appropriate protocols. The management system grants or denies access and controls the FaceEntry/TouchEntry terminal. The flexibility of the LCD touch screen allows the system also to be used for time and attendance.
BIOMETRY, RFID, PIN-CODE
FaceEntry® allows the combination of biometry using 3D face detection, RFID and PIN code. So you can enhance the security according to your requirements or migrate from traditional access cards to a state-of-the-art biometric system
INTUITIVE TOUCH INTERFACE
Ever since the proliferation of smartphones, everyone knows the benefits of touch technology. By pointing a finger you ring the door bell or choose a contact from the phone list – nice to have this now also available for your entrance.
Visitors either choose their desired point of contact directly using the built-in phone book – or ring the door bell for the receptionist. As the unit is networked, distance does not matter any more and the receiving station can be anywhere in the world. The high quality echo cancellation allows for natural voice communication, without loosing a word. At the same time you will see the person and the situation in front of the door, live and in color, anytime, even if no one is ringing.

Intercom Safety For NYC Apartment and Office Buildings
New Yorkers need to be extra wary of those we give access to our apartment or office building. The majority of time, the intercom is your best friend. It saves you from having to run down to the lobby to let every appointment, delivery person, friend, worker or other visitor in that arrives. Be smart about who you let in and use your intercom as the first line defense against burglars and thieves.
During the busy holiday season, intruders have an increased chance of gaining unauthorized access, putting everyone in the building at risk. In some cases, they may buzz each apartment or office to find out who is home. Or buzz every apartment or office at once hoping for a chance that someone will let them in. Always use the talk and listen feature of your intercom to communicate with each visitor to make sure they are legitimate. Be wary of common excuses they may try to use like claiming to be delivering a package for another tenant who’s not answering or pretending to be a new tenant who’s lost their keys. If you’re expecting someone, don’t assume it’s them when your intercom buzzes.
Report a broken intercom to your landlord immediately. If your intercom doesn’t work, or if you notice that something’s awry with the intercom panel in your building’s lobby, tell your landlord. Remember, an intercom isn’t just a convenience — it’s an important security measure. So, if your buzzer stops working or you have trouble hearing people in your lobby, you should bring this to your landlord’s attention as soon as possible.
If you live or work in NYC and do not currently have an advanced intercom system, now is the time consider installing one.
Many of today’s intercom systems have video capabilities, meaning homeowners can ask for identification to check and see if the person has the right credentials, has a parcel under his or her arm or is empty-handed malevolently looking in the window. Individuals should also think about hiring a professional locksmith to change any delicate locks around the house or consult a trusted security systems provider to leverage a silent alarm and round-the-clock monitoring.
Although this time of year is commonly referred to as the season of giving, home and business owners should not step aside and let their valuable possessions be stolen, vandalized or misused by criminals looking to take advantage of the holiday goodwill.

According to a recent article in Thejournal.com, the North Bend Central School District has started using a high-tech surveillance system with security cameras and video surveillance to help protect the school children and decrease incidents of vandalism.
The school buildings are a part of one of the most advanced integrated security systems available. Access control systems allow the appropriate personnel and students admittance to all buildings. Instead of having to rely on someone to be available with a key, the doors are programmed to automatically lock and unlock based on the school schedule. The times can be changed as often as desired to accommodate evening meetings or times outside of the normal school hours.
The employees will use card readers to let themselves in and out of the building. If their employment status changes, their readers can be remotely deactivated. There are discreet dome network cameras inside of the school and fixed network cameras to provide security footage of the outside perimeter of the building.
Take the steps to ensure that your family and properties are safe. Paragon Security NYC provides advanced access control security solutions for both residential and commercial establishments.

Integrated Security Systems in Schools
The security of children has become an increasingly important issue. That’s why even school districts have begun to opt for high-tech integrated security systems when allowing visitors to enter the property.
A story recently appeared on IslandGazette.net pertaining to the installation of such systems in New Hanover County schools. Video intercom systems have been linked to security cameras, which allows someone monitoring CCTV to monitor access control to the buildings.
This is especially important for areas where the youngest of children, such as those in kindergarten, reside.
These systems allow for visitors to be stopped at the entrance. Cameras can then monitor them as someone monitoring the camera verifies the individual’s identity. They can then allow or deny them access, which disables visitors from accessing the school until they are authorized.
The idea behind this implementation is that it will increase the security to children and staff members.
Savvy businesses and homeowners interested in this same cutting-edge technology are making use of these systems to keep their persons and their property safe from unwanted intruders.
Paragon Security NYC is one of the leading providers of advanced security solutions such as integrated security systems for both residential and commercial establishments.

The new Siedle Scope
Siedle, the leading manufacturer of building communication technology, has taken its state-of-the-art products to a whole new level: by upgrading its mobile video intercom – Siedle Scope – and adding new app for its In-Home bus, Siedle has combined the advantages of both technologies, thereby enlarging the application spectrum and functionality of the mobile video intercom.
The only mobile video call station to operate on a DECT basis and at the same time function as a cordless landline phone, Siedle Scope now presents a groundbreaking combination of mobile video door communication with the new In-Home bus app, bringing together the benefits of DECT with mobile applications. With its audio quality, fault susceptibility, standby time and availability, DECT technology is superior to WiFi or mobile phone applications. At the same time, being popular, user-friendly devices, mobile applications make perfect sense when it comes to video intercoms.
With improved performance and functionality, Siedle Scope includes the following new features:
Repeaters which increase range, a necessity in complex building environments. Up to six repeaters can be operated simultaneously, significantly amplifying the radio signal if required.
Improved video memory and video quality: thanks to the more efficient use of the DECT standard, this cutting-edge technology transfers more data and optimizes the depiction and resolution of the real-time video image. The upgraded video memory can manage up to 50 photos.
New user interface: The start screen supplies an overview of the most important function and a cross-shaped control element is used for navigation. Duplex intercom system, landline telephone, video memory as well as switching and control functions can be intuitively operated. The integrated directory stores around 1,600 call numbers, and up to three for each contact.
The browser-based, platform independent administration software makes configuration both simple and convenient, although it is still possible to edit by means of the telephone keypad.
The hotel mode and hearing aid compatibility are examples of additional functions included in the appliance.
Improved standards of network connection and app:
The new Scope base station serves simultaneously as an IP gateway, with the link to the IP network established by means of a LAN connection. The network connection also allows future software updates. Using the new base station, the In-Home bus from Siedle can also be linked to the latest iPhone and iPad generation, initially for the local WiFi, but later also over the mobile phone network.
With its functionality corresponding to a Siedle indoor station, the new app was developed by the manufacturer to address the specific demands of door communication. Once connection is established, video and audio links are available immediately and simultaneously. The speech quality adheres to Siedle’s strict standards. The door is released by pressing on the relevant symbol with a fingertip, and an electronic signature secures the transmission of the door release. An additional feature prevents undesired operation errors.

Securing Our Schools
While violence in schools is a topic that we all would prefer to not have to face, recent tragic school shootings, such as Columbine and Sandy Hook, have pushed this issue to the forefront as a reality we all must address proactively. In today’s schools it is absolutely necessary to ensure there is a functional plan and system in place to prevent tragedies such as these from occurring.
When a school is unequipped to inform those within of an impending threat, it can mean the difference between a school day ending typically or tragically.
Commercial security systems help to ensure that all students and staff are safe while at school. Intercom systems and other access control systems provide the early alert needed in the event of an emergency. In a school, providing early warning is a critical part of prevention and quick response to crisis. Commercial security systems make it possible for schools to guarantee that seconds save lives.

Three reasons to get a video intercom
Any type of intercom can be a key cog in a home security camera. Intercoms are particularly valuable because they let you identify who is at the door without drawing too much attention to the home, like highly-visible security cameras might. This means that you get the protection you need in a form factor that is simple, accessible and complementary to your home. However, video intercoms can prove particularly advantageous because they make it easier to identify who is at the door.
There are plenty of reasons to consider a video intercom system for your home, but a few key considerations include:
They are good for kids
If you're a parent, you've probably worried plenty about leaving your children alone and having them answer the door for a stranger. At some point though, most parents have to leave their kids alone and hope they are old enough and mature enough to have learned when they should or shouldn't open the door. A standard intercom can help in this area, but it could be fairly easy for a young teenager who is home alone for a couple of hours to open the door for somebody claiming to have a package, and accidentally open the door for a burglar.
A video intercom is easier for children to use because it lets them see the person at the door and communicate with that individual more easily. As a result, you can rest at ease knowing that your children, who have been told to only open the door for a few specific people, for example, will be able to identify those individuals if they come to the door and recognize if somebody else is trying to take advantage of them.
Video intercoms are more accessible than you might think
A video intercom may seem like a futuristic technology that is out of reach, but quality cameras are becoming less expensive all the time and a security company can often offer a cost-efficient video intercom model that could meet your price point. Protecting your home is key, but everybody has to work within a budget. The accessibility of cameras and similar technologies is making video intercoms available in a variety of price ranges.
Video intercoms work well in an integrated security system
If you need a high level of security at your home, chances are you have looked into an integrated security platform in which multiple components work with one another. Video intercoms are a natural fit in this kind of situation and can provide vital functionality when used in conjunction with security cameras, electronic locks, alarm systems and other advanced technologies. In this type of setup, your intercom console could become a central control platform where you can view what is happening near every camera, control locks or perform other key actions. This level of control can be extremely important if you have a large property with multiple outbuildings that all need to be protected.
For example, if a large package comes that needs to be delivered to a detached garage, you can use the intercom to verify that the shipping company is indeed present, unlock the garage door and watch the workers unload the package through the central control platform. You can then close the garage door, lock it and open the front door to sign paperwork. All of these features are similarly helpful if burglars try to gain entry to your property, as an intercom tied to a home automation or integrated security solution lets you take action to lock doors and locate threats.
Protecting your home can be difficult, but a good video intercom system can prove a vital technology in any efforts to keep your family, property and assets safe.

Intercoms a vital component of home security systems
Intercom solutions are among the most essential components of any home security platform. Alarms, cameras, locks and other solutions can help you keep your home safe, but having an intercom adds another level of protection that can help keep you free from worry on a day-to-day basis.
It may seem likeintercoms are only relevant for multi-family dwellings like apartment buildings, where they are a common sight, but a good intercom can help you identify anybody who is visiting your home. The benefits of an intercom are particularly clear when you consider the danger of actually coming to the door.
Being behind the door can be an incredibly vulnerable position. An attacker who breaks down the door to get in or is there to harm you can easily hurt you while you are behind the door checking on who is knocking. An intercom allows you to check on somebody’s identity from a safe distance and, if you are suspicious, avoid any risk that stems from coming to the door.
With an intercom system, you can also establish a video feed that makes it even more difficult for attackers to get you to open the door for them. This layered protection can be incredibly valuable.
Lock Doors and Locate Threats
If a large package comes that needs to be delivered to a detached garage, you can use the intercom to verify that the shipping company is indeed present, unlock the garage door and watch the workers unload the package through the central control platform. You can then close the garage door, lock it and open the front door to sign paperwork. All of these features are similarly helpful if burglars try to gain entry to your property, as an intercom tied to a home automation or integrated security solution lets you take action to lock doors and locate threats.

Intercoms offer key layer of home protection
Control and knowledge are central to success when establishing a home, office, school or even data center security strategy. IP cameras, integrated security solutions, advanced locks and other technologies all help you gain a greater ability to control who is able to enter a part of a building or property. However, you probably also want to have some idea of who is trying to access a property. While cameras can help with this, their benefits are limited unless you have an application that allows you to watch the camera feed while you look to see who is at the door. This is one area where a simple video intercom can come in handy.
Understanding the benefits of an intercom
In security, knowledge is powerful. If you have an intercom system installed you gain the ability to find out important information about an individual trying to gain entry to a building. A few key advantages of an intercom system include:
Some security solutions are fairly rigid in nature. For example, a solution based on biometric scanners will not let somebody into a room unless they have the right credentials or physically break the door down. This is absolutely necessary for some types of facilities, but homes, schools and similar building have to be accessible to many different people over the course of a day. If you need to accept a package you need a security system that can verify that the person at the door is who he/she says she is. A video intercom gives you the ability to not only look at the individual, but also hold a short conversation to ensure that the story is legitimate.
While criminals can certainly fool you if you aren't careful, a video intercom gives you the ability to avoid any annoying or inconvenient issues associated with protecting a property. Let's face it, if you are installing a security system and you feel a need to be protected, but you don't want to give up simplicity and convenience. Intercoms give you the information and functionality to easily make a good decision about whether or not you want to open the door for somebody.
Most people, especially homeowners, don't want to deal with such a complex security solution that they spend as much time agonizing over whether or not they are using it properly as they do actually taking advantage of its features. A video intercom is extremely accessible, offers fairly simple controls and gives you the ability to tell the difference, for example, between a potential threat and a person who is stopping by your house for a perfectly innocent reason.
You can remain perfectly safe with a video intercom. If somebody wants to talk, but the situation is tense, you can hold a conversation over the intercom without having to open the door, even a crack, to interact with somebody at your door. Instead, just use the intercom and you can stay completely safe and still talk with somebody if needed.
Intercom solutions can easily be scaled to meet operational needs in a variety of settings. If you are looking for an intercom to put near your back door, you can get that at a relatively low cost. At the same time, if you want intercoms to use in a school where there are multiple points of entry, the technology still provides simplicity and powerful protection at a reasonable cost.
Intercoms offer many benefits that can be difficult to match through other solutions. Most importantly, they give you the ability to apprise a situation and make a good decision about whether or not somebody should be allowed entry.

Keeping your home safe during the holidays
As winter quickly approaches, so does the season for giving. This means families around the world will be sending each other gifts and good cheer through the mail, meaning delivery men will be in overdrive.
Unfortunately, this time of year also means homeowners need to be wary of who comes to their door, as criminals will often pretend to be postal workers to gain access to their homes. In other words, people need to ensure their home or apartment security systems are up to date and capable of monitoring the premises when no one is home.
In some cases, criminals walk up to a home and repeatedly ring the doorbell to get the homeowner's attention, only to barge in the house when the door is finally opened. For this reason, homeowners should consider using an advanced intercom system outside their front door. By using these tools, individuals can safely stand in a room and see who is really out front.
Many of today's intercom systems have video capabilities, meaning homeowners can ask for identification to check and see if the person has the right credentials, has a parcel under his or her arm or is empty-handed malevolently looking in the window. Individuals should also think about hiring a professional locksmith to change any delicate locks around the house or consult a trusted security systems provider to leverage a silent alarm and round-the-clock monitoring.
Although this time of year is commonly referred to as the season of giving, homeowners should not step aside and let their valuable possessions be stolen, vandalized or misused by criminals looking to take advantage of ignorant consumers.
Inappropriately misquoting Mr. Kringle, tis the season to beef up your Ho-Ho-Home security system.
